Back To You: A Gentleman Always Leads

ORIGINAL EPISODES, WEDNESDAYS @ 8PM ON FOX

For some odd reason the writers felt it would be a good idea to revert back to the same style of writing as the pilot episode a month ago. Too bad the pilot episode wasn't all that funny; and neither was this one. As I watched last night I realized that for a half hour I may have smiled one time, if that much. The show was just NOT funny period. The moment it was building up the last couple weeks seems to have vanished into thin air and it makes me wonder if the last episode was a lucky stab at humor or the writers are purposely trying to be inconsistent.

If this show has any chance of surviving it needs to find its identity and stick with it. Each week we've seen inconsistency and a lack of humor in significant portions of the show. This week was spent having Chuck walk around the newsroom trying to steal the lead story from Kelly. Apparently, his old colleagues were in town and he was looking to impress them. Unfortunately for Chuck he ended up with the lead story only for it to backfire and make him look like a fool. Sadly, even this wasn't the slightest bit funny.

The one thing I did like was that the writers finally stopped having Montana pretend to be an idiot. In fact, her jokes were somewhat intelligent. This was a great idea and they should make her smarter. Ditsy humor rarely if ever works and through the first three episodes it was clear that it was not working for her.

I'm going to keep watching in the hopes that the writers find the shows identity and stick with it for more than one episode. I still think there's some potential here, they just haven't figured out where it is yet.
